Stroke Rehabilitation

The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington helps individuals recover and regain function from the physical and psychological effects following a stroke. Through intensive therapy, our team is committed to providing each patient with the highest level of expertise available and the most complete and optimal recovery possible. Elements of the Stroke Rehabilitation Program include, but are not limited to:

Prevention, recognition, assessment, and treatment of conditions related to stroke and its complications.

  • Conditions may include bowel and bladder dysfunction, anxiety, depression, deconditioning, dysphagia, emotional ability, falls, blood pressure problems, pressure ulcers, and recurrent stroke.

Promotion of lifestyle changes that focus on reducing the risk factors for recurrent stroke.

  • Risk factors for recurrent stroke may include high blood pressure, coronary disease, obesity, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high alcohol intake.
  • Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Worth promotes lifestyle changes including smoking cessation, promoting exercise, modifying one's diet, and improving blood glucose control.

Regaining the highest level of functional independence possible.

  • Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington seeks to achieve this by addressing impairments in cognitive, memory, and language skills; balance, motor function, and activities of daily living.

Assisting patients with psychological and social coping (including services for family members when needed).

  • Texas Rehabilitation Hospital of Arlington hosts a stroke support group the 3rd Thursday of each month and, through the support group, provides peer to peer visitation from past stroke survivors.

Re-integrating back into the community and participating in normal life roles again.
